One of the best ways PAYLEX can save you on credit card fees is our Address Verification Service. Verifying that the billing address entered matches the billing address on the credit card can save your company more than half a percentage point. On a $5000 purchase, that's over 25 bucks, so it's worth getting it right.
To set it up, go to your Banking Settings. Under the Credit Card Settings tab, you'll find options related to Address verification.
Enabling the AVS Threshold designates the lower limit for this feature. In this example, PAYLEX won't verify the address for a charge less than $5.
Likewise, the AVS Required Amount indicates the maximum charge your users can 'Force' without supervisor approval. In this example, PAYLEX will require approval for any address mismatch over $50.
You can also specify the number of times to retry before giving up on address verification.
AVS activates after you manually enter a credit card payment, so there's no verification necessary when you can physically swipe or dip the credit card.
If both the billing street address and the zip code are wrong and the payment amount is above the threshold, PAYLEX will prompt you to correct them. Once either the street address or zip code are correct, verification will be successful and should avoid the extra fee.
When address verification fails, you have the option to FORCE the payment. Depending on your configuration, this may require a supervisor override.
You have a limited number of retries. Suppose you keep changing the address or zip code, and the verification continues to fail. In that case, the credit card payment will be automatically forced or, if the Supervisor does not override the restriction, the payment will fail.
You can view a list of all the payments made without verified addresses.
1. In the Batch Settlement window, click 'History'.
2. Then click 'Review All'.
3. Click the 'A(V)x' checkbox to show just the address verification mismatches.
4. Finally, when prompted, click 'Yes' to show only those approved payments.
This will show you all the Non-Qualified payments, where the credit card company charged you an extra 0.55% because the address was not verified. This is on top of the 0.3% they charge because the credit card wasn't present at the point of sale. The more you can avoid Non-Qualified payments, the more money you save.
